José (Haarlemmerliede 1935) werkt en woont in Woudenberg.
José is opgeleid als kleuterjuf, maar bloed kruipt waar het gaan moet. Tijdens een tiental jaren in het kleuter- en bijzonder onderwijs volgde zij lessen aan de Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. Zij heeft met haar school in Haarlem in 1965 de eerste “expositie” gehouden van kunstwerken door kinderen met een verstandelijke beperking.
In de jaren ’70 beoefende zij keramiek. Sinds 1983 is zij overgegaan op schilderen. Toch gebruikt zij haar keramiekervaring in de fresco’s in reliëf. De driedimensionaliteit verdiept haar kunst.
Qua techniek is José een duizendpoot. Zij beheerst veel technieken in houtskool, pastel, aquarel, acryl, en olieverf. Bovendien experimenteert zij graag. Zo zijn de fresco’s in reliëf ontstaan. Daarnaast verstaat zij de kunst van fotografie en keramiek.
De natuur en het buitengebeuren zijn een van haar favoriete inspiratiebronnen. Zij werkt op locatie en niet naar foto’s. Tenzij, heel soms worden foto’s gemaakt van het onderwerp waar ze mee bezig is, maar ze worden alleen als ondersteuning gebruikt en krijgen een heel ander leven. Nooit fotografisch!
Het creatieve proces van José is organisch: eerst schetst zij het onderwerp om een compositie te bepalen en gaat dan op locatie schilderen. In haar atelier wordt nog de finishing touch aangebracht. Zij maakt realistische kunstwerken, maar dan zo dat zij iets meer toevoegt dan te zien is. Zo kan er opeens een rood geverfde lucht ontstaan, om de hitte van de dag te doen voelen. Typisch van haar werk is: Het opblazen van dingen, zoals bloemen, stillevens, herhaling van thema’s en het maken van series in het ritme van de kleurencirkel. Een voorbeeld hiervan zijn de muzikale handen die in diverse bewegingen te bewonderen zijn. Onbewust ontstaat een nieuwe serie, maar dan weer heel anders.

Meer dan 20 jaar gaf zij teken en schilderlessen. Haar veelzijdigheid kwam hierin goed van pas. Tientallen cursisten heeft zij met haar enthousiasme en vakmanschap boven zichzelf uit doen stijgen. Sommige van haar leerlingen zijn regelmatig te bewonderen in exposities. Al die jaren combineerde zij vrij kunstenaarsschap met schilderlessen in Zeist, Driebergen en Amersfoort. Momenteel geeft zij alleen nog les in Woudenberg aan de Kunstberg. Zij richt zich nu vooral op haar eigen kunst. Incidenteel verzorgt Workshops aan Bedrijven en Schildervakanties in Frankrijk.
Maar is vooral bezig als zelfstandig beeldend kunstenaar in Woudenberg.
